Gutter Clear-Out in Menands

Clogged gutters spill water where it does damage: against siding, over doors and down into the foundation. We empty the troughs by hand, flush every downspout and send photos of what we found. You get gutters that drain, a tidy yard and a plain answer about their shape.

What a gutter clear-out is and when you need one

A clear-out means removing everything in the gutter that is not water. Leaves, pine needles, shingle grit, seed pods and the black sludge they break down into. Once that layer builds up, rain sits in the trough or pours over the front lip instead of heading for the downspout.

Most homes need it once or twice a year. Late fall, after the maples and oaks drop, is the big one around here. A spring visit catches the seeds and winter grit before summer storms. Houses under tall trees may need more.

We are licensed and insured, and we have been working on home exteriors for 5 years. We tell you what we see in plain words, including when your gutters look fine and can wait.

What every gutter visit includes

Debris removed by hand

Gloved hands and a small scoop do the work. Everything goes into bags on the ladder, not onto your roof, windows or siding by way of a blower.

Every downspout flushed

We run water through each downspout to make sure it flows from top to bottom. If one is packed, we clear it before we leave.

A look at slope and hangers

While we are up there, we check for sagging sections, loose hangers and spots where water pools. We point these out so you can decide what to do.

Before and after photos

You get photos of the gutters before and after. You do not have to climb a ladder to see what you paid for.

Ground cleanup

We pick up what falls, rake out flower beds under the eaves and take the bags with us.

Signs your gutters are overdue

  • Overflow during a storm

Watch the gutters during a heavy rain. If water pours across the outer lip instead of running to the downspout, something is blocked. That spill drops straight down next to your foundation.

  • Green shoots in the trough

When you spot small plants or tufts of grass along the roofline, the gutter is holding enough packed soil for roots to take hold. All that wet dirt is heavy and pulls on the hangers.

  • Stains or streaks on siding

Dark lines running down the siding under the gutter usually come from overflow. They often show up before you notice the clog.

  • Sagging or pulling away

Wet debris is heavy. A gutter that dips or leans off the fascia is often just carrying too much.

  • Ice buildup at the eaves

Clogged gutters hold water that freezes. Long icicles and ice ridges along the roofline in winter are a sign the gutters were full going in.

How the day goes

  1. 1

A quick call for your free quote

Give us a ring and describe your place: how many stories, roughly how long the gutters run and what trees are nearby. We give you a number over the phone and pick a day that suits you.

  2. 2

    Setup and protection

Our ladders use stabilizer arms that brace against the roof surface, so no weight goes on the gutter itself. Tarps cover beds and walkways below the area we are working.

  3. 3

    Empty and flush

We work each run by hand, then send water through the troughs and downspouts. We watch it to confirm it drains at every outlet.

  4. 4

    Walk-through and photos

We show you the photos and tell you about anything we noticed, like a loose hanger or a low spot. Then we tidy the ground and haul the debris away.

What affects the price

Every house is priced on its own. The number depends mostly on the total length of your gutters, the ladder work it takes to reach them and the amount of debris packed inside. You hear the figure on the phone before anything is scheduled, along with the reasons behind it.

Height of the house
A one-story ranch is quicker and safer to work on than a three-story house. Taller homes need longer ladders and more setup time.
Length of the gutter run
More linear feet of gutter and more downspouts means more time. Houses with lots of corners and short runs take longer too.
How packed they are
Gutters emptied last fall go fast. Gutters with years of sludge and plants growing in them take much longer to clear.
Guards and access
Guards can add time, since some styles have to come off before we can reach the debris and go back on afterward. Steep roofs, decks and tight side yards can slow the work as well.

Common gutter questions

Something not covered here? (518) 754-0572

How many times a year do gutters need clearing?

Two visits a year covers most houses, one in late fall and another in spring. Homes under big oaks or pines tend to fill faster and may need a third pass in midsummer. If yours can go longer, we will say so.

I have gutter guards. Do I still need this?

Usually yes, just less often. Fine grit and small seeds still get under many guards, and leaves pile on top. We lift the guards, empty underneath and set them back.

Do you walk on my roof?

We work from ladders whenever we can. On some houses a short walk on the roof is the safest way to reach a section, and we only do that when the shingles and pitch can take it. If the roof looks fragile, we tell you and work from below.

Can you work on gutters that have permanent lights on them?

Yes. We work around permanent lighting track carefully so we do not knock the lights out of line. If the lights are ours, they carry a 10-year product warranty, and we check the mounts while we are up there.

Will you fix a loose or sagging gutter?

We will point it out, show you a photo and explain what is going on. Often a sag is just weight from debris and settles once it is emptied. If it needs more, we tell you plainly so you can decide.
